The 73rd Golden Globe Awards was broadcasted live on January 10, 2016 through NBC, venue being The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California and the timing being 5:00 p.m. PST / 8:00 p.m. EST. The hyped ceremony was produced under the supervision of Dick Clark Productions integrated with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Nominations were universally declared on December 10, 2015. Some of the acclaimed movies to be nominated for the category of “Best Film” were Mr Robot, Mozart in the Jungle, The Revenant, The Martian and Steve Jobs amongst several television shows.
This year saw Ricky Gervais as the excruciating, offensive yet humouring host, with his far-than-expected opening monologues, some applauding winners, scantling celebrity faux pas and a night full of emotional speeches. Here are the Top 10 Moments from Golden Globe 2016 which deserved some eye-catchy attention and are worth mentioning. You are worth a Golden Globe if you went through the whole ceremony!
As Gervais would say, “Shalom!”
Top 10 Moments from Golden Globe 2016
1. Ricky Gervais, the HOST of the evening, on Caitlyn Jenner, Sean Penn and Mel Gibson
Taking an unexpected dig at the stars in attendance, the Globes’ host Ricky Gervais created some scratchy and mocking laughter. “I’ve changed. Not as much as Bruce Jenner, obviously,” Gervais trolled Jenner on her transition, but instantly applauded her on her brave part, quoting, “she didn’t do a lot for women drivers.” Sean Penn was also not spared, and was mocked by him, being called as “a snitch” regarding his “El Chapo” interview. Mel Gibson was also under his radar, and commented on his anti-Semitic comments, speaking, “I’d rather have a drink with him in his hotel room tonight than Bill Cosby.” This was one of the major Golden Globes 2016 Highlights, respectively!
That was some serious leg-pulling Ricky!
2. Leonardo DiCaprio Wins Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama, for The Revenant
This was definitely one of the Golden Globes 2016 Best Moments! Leonardo DiCaprio was recognized with another Golden Globe award for the Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama for his role in The Reverent. The winning literally earned him a standing ovation, and almost all the people predicted his Academy Award on that very night as well!
A deserving actor he is!
3. The Internet’s new love Oscar Isaac’s victory (not for Poe Dameron)
Oscar Isaac faced a major breakthrough in the year 2015 with his influential and popular part in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Ex Machina, along with HBO mini-series Show Me A Hero for which he was reputed with the award for the Best Actor. Isaac expressed his emotions with gratitude and said, “It’s incredible. Very blessed and humbled by everything that’s happened.”
4. Sylvester Stallone forgetting Ryan Coogler, Michael B. Jordan during his Thank-You speech
Netting a standing ovation from the whole crowd, Sylvester Stallone earned his share of award for the Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal in the world-acclaimed movie, Creeds. He gave a heart-felt speech, and thanked his “imaginary friend Rocky Balboa for being the best friend I ever had.” Although one of the surprising 73rd Golden Globes Moments came when he forgot to mention his gratitude towards the director, Coogler or co-star Jordan, but came back on the stage (off-air) to mention their names in the most unpredicted manner, “Did I say Ryan Coogler? You are a brilliant filmmaker.”
Some serious *Speech* we must say!
5. Lady Gaga gives a heartfelt speech
With her potential speech starting with “I feel like Cher in John Patrick Shanley’s Moonstruck,”, Lady Gaga couldn’t control her emotional streak as she won her Golden Globe for Best Actress In A Miniseries/TV Movie for her portrayal as an 111-year old vampire in American Horror Story: Hotel. She gracefully thanked the creator Ryan Murphy and the cast.
But something blunder happened during her arrival on stage, and that was Leonardo DiCaprio’s startled reaction when Gaga passed by him while brushing his arm. The reaction just exploded on social media websites and made its way for countless posts, tweets, trolls and memes!
Again, DiCaprio’s the MAN!
6. Aziz Ansari goes viral with throwaway gag
Aziz Ansari did something hilarious when the camera turned around him for his reaction during the announcement for Best Actor in a Comedy Series. He reflected himself reading a book, titled, “Losing to Jeffrey Tambor With Dignity”!! Although ironically both lost to Gael Garcia Bernal for his depiction in Mozart in the Jungle!
Either way, well played Aziz!
7. Eva Longoria, America Ferrera mocking Latina typecasts
The Golden Globes’ Twitter account made a huge mistake while announcing for Golden Globe nominations last month: mistaking America Ferrara with Jane the Virgin’s Gina Rodriguez! Being an affirmed comedian with a whacky sense of humour, she decided to play along while presenting the award with the beautiful Eva Longoria, “Hi, I’m Eva Longoria, not Eva Mendes,” Longoria said. “And neither one of us are Rosario Dawson.” “Well said, Salma (Hayek),” Ferrera jested, to which Longoria spoke, “Thank you, Charo.”
8. Jennifer Lawrence thanked David O. Russell
Well, most of her speech was about how remarkable her director was and how she wanted be buried next to each other! Beating her BFF Amy Schumer, Jennifer Lawrence aka JLaw won her Golden Globe for her astounding performance in Joy. While seeking gratitude towards Joy Mangano (the Miracle Mop mogul and Inspiration), she embellished her director, David O. Russell, with appreciations, narrating, “You make movies like you don’t even care if anyone’s going to see them. I mean that as a compliment! … I want us to be buried next to each other, I really do.”
That’s the way, J Law likes it!
9. Taraji P. Henson refused to be cut off
The Empire star Taraji P. Henson let all her emotions out of her box during her touching speech while receiving a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Drama series for symbolizing the quotable Cookie Lyon. She was cheered loudly for her stand-out speech, when she paused and said,” Please Wrap? I waited 20 years for this. You gon’ wait. Yeah, you gon’ give me a little more time.”
“Cookies for everyone tonight! My treat,”
10. Jamie Foxx’s Steve Harvey Moment
Counted as one of the Golden Globes 2016 Worst Moments was when Jamie Foxx pulled a “Steve Harvey” while presenting his share of award for Best Original Score in a Motion Picture with Lily James. Unlike Harvey, the announced name, Straight Outta Compton, wasn’t even in the nominations! The nominees were distinctively snubbed but weren’t impressed with Foxx’s skills!
Don’t take that hard Foxx!
